Dr. Darlene McKinney has been teaching since 1985. She earned a BSBA in Elementary Education from the University of Houston. She graduated with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in 2013 and a Doctorate in Assessment Learning and School Improvement in 2016 from Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. McKinney has been married to John for 38 years. She was born in Oklahoma and has lived in Missouri, Texas and Tennessee. She has three children, Hannah, Rachel, and Johnny and 5 grandchildren, Katelynn, Zoey, Carly, Emmie, and Grayson. Dr. McKinney enjoys photography, traveling and spending time with family, especially playing with her four granddaughters and grandson during her free time.
Dr. McKinney focuses on student learning growth and student achievement. She knows all her students will enter her class with a different set of acquired knowledge and skills. That is the starting point for each student. Dr. McKinney's goal is to help each student grow his/her own knowledge and skills based on Tennessee's fourth grade math and science standards. The goal is for each student to apply their knowledge and skills to real world problem solving situations with persistence and determination.
In addition to teaching fourth grade math and science at Lascassas, Dr. McKinney is an adjunct professor in the Teacher Leadership Department at MTSU.
